Dollar General coming to Baker

BAKER, FL - Baker residents can expect new discount retail option by the end of this year.

A Dollar General store is planned for a lot just south of Primetime Video on State Road 4 south of Baker.

Dollar General Corporation, based in Goodlettsville, Tenn., bills itself as the nation's largest small-box discount retailer. Dollar General has more than 8,400 stores across 35 states.

The Baker location will be a "new profile, modernized Dollar General," according to developer Steve Hufstetler. He said the store will cover approximately 9,000 square feet and will employ 10 people.

Hufstetler expects the Baker location to open "more than likely" in November. He said construction will begin as soon as the permitting process is complete.

Dollar General has two locations in Crestview. A Dollar General was slated to open in Mossy Head this week, according to Hufstetler.

Dollar General earlier this year announced plans to open 450 new stores and create 400 new jobs across the nation in 2009.
