WaterColor bar takes first in martinis
When it comes to martinis along 30A, Fish Out of Water can now officially claim the No. 1 spot.
Fish bartender Tracye Crass beat out eight other contenders with her “Water Hazard” to take the designation of Best Martini on 30A at Santa Rosa Beach Club. Crass and her competition prepared their best martinis before a standing-room only crowd on Sunday.
Southern Wine and Spirits’ Kathy Fly Bridges said Crass’s “Water Hazard” made with Svedka Citron Vodka met all the criteria for becoming THE martini of 30A.
“All contestants had great martinis but her sugar-rimmed glass was a perfect reflection of our sugar white sand beaches. Her use of emerald blue liquid echoed our blue waters, and her use of fresh squeezed orange juice and lemon juice with an orange slice represented the sun-kissed beach perfectly,” said Bridges. “So, not only did hers taste great, but it looked great too.”
Other contenders in the competition were Patrick Oliver of Bud and Alley’s Taco Bar, who took second place; Mario McNally of Fire took third; and Lindsay Hedglin of Santa Rosa Beach Club; Helen "Redd" Vizard of Sally’s Backside; Amalia Petrakova of Tommy Bahama’s; Robert Wallace of Tommy Bahama’s; Angela Quina of Bally Ho's; and Louis Cavalb of The Yacht Club rounded out the competition.
Judges based their scores on color, taste, and garnish.
Judges were Wild Olives Chef Chris Trovas; Blue Mountain Liquors owner Christian Haynes; Matthew Lopez; and Dr. Dennis Lichorwic.
Lichorwic donated the first prize of a Zoom Teeth Whitening at his Cosmetic Dentistry office.
The event was organized by Hedglin, who is bar manager at SRBC.
Anna Ochley with Costellation Wines and Spirits provided the Svedka Vodka in three flavors at no charge.
| this was my firt time to water colors and i must say it is very overpriced. we had dinner twice and it was not very good and the portions were small. the ceasar salad for, i think, for $13 was an embarassment to serve---two slices of romain and some cheese sprinkled on it. as for the martini it was ok---for your location $7 was too much, and it was nothing to bragg about. my wife and friends glasses of wine were outrages at $9 a glass.
at these rates i do not think i will return to "fish out of water" or the hotel----neither have much atmosphere
---it seems like an old log cabin. one other thing---the lights in you parking lot are going to get someone hurt. my wife stumbled and twisted her ankle as she could not see due the poor lighting. |
