NICEVILLE, FL - Frogs are cute. Frogs are fun.
T.R. Frogs Grill and Pizza is, just as its owners promise, "Toadally Awesome."
Located on State Road 20 in the Shops at Bluewater Bay complex, T.R. Frogs Grill and Pizza offers cuisine both unique and tried-and-true.
The place exudes fun. From the frog paintings on the walls and the photos in the ultra-clean bathroom, to the sports on television to the game room and baseball team party room. There wasn't an unhappy face to be seen Wednesday night.
"Wednesday only comes once a week. You got to make the most of it," said Chris, the waiter.
The food
The menu, as you might expect from the name of the business, includes burgers and "gourmet" pizzas. It is hardly, however, limited to these local staples.
How do grilled shrimp and grits sound? Don't matter how it sounds, right? It's all about the taste.
Try it. You'll like it. The shrimp are awesome big and the grits are made from Gouda cheese and chunked up with, an educated guess here, bacon. As a Southern boy once said, "make ya swaller your tongue."
Another option is the blackened tuna BLT, described by the young lady who consumed it as "creative" and "innovative."
"It's a great update of an old classic," she said.
There are other interesting-looking items on the menu - tropical tilapia, a "real" Rueben and margherita (that's how they spelled it) pizza - that human limitations and a closely monitored expense account prevented a proper taste test from being conducted upon. A shame.
Oh, and creamy chocolate peanut butter pie.
The atmosphere
What part of "exudes fun" needs to be restated? The restaurant is big, open, and has cool frog artwork all over the walls. Were it earlier in the evening, this amphibian aficionado (check the T-Mac Smack blog sometime) would have spent time walking around the place and annoying other patrons by looking over their eating heads at all the art.
There's a game room to stash the kids in while the adults enjoy an adult beverage and four televisions scattered about. T.R. Frogs Grill and Pizza also has a team party room, which has got to peak parental interest.
The service
In a word, outstanding.
We were greeted immediately by a hostess, actually one of the owners along with a hostess. Our server, the quotable Chris, was Johnny on the spot with drink and food orders. He was confident enough to recommend food items of interest and knowledgeable enough about the business to answer questions.
A final word
T.R. Frogs Grill & Pizza is locally owned and has been open for three months. The restaurant serves good food at reasonable prices and is a fun place to visit. Toadally Awesome.
