The Scoreboard offers a lot of stuff

OKALOOSA ISLAND, FL — Looking for a place to watch the big game? How about somewhere to vent your lungs through karaoke? A cozy bar? A spacious restaurant? Seafood? Burgers? Breakfast? Late night dining? For any or all, try The Scoreboard on Okaloosa Island. The Scoreboard is a veritable smorgasborg.

The food
Ever drive around town debating the question, “What do you feel like for dinner?” Next time, just head to The Scoreboard. There’s got to be something on this vast menu you’ll want to eat. There are soups and salads, wraps, quesadillas, ribs, burgers, seafood, sandwiches and chicken dishes. If none of that suits ya, have breakfast. There’s a full breakfast menu too.
   
Smoked tuna, served with carrots, celery and crackers makes an excellent light appetizer, but there are 14 others to choose from.
   
The grouper we were told, is fresh and locally caught. It was also delicious.
   
The crab cakes, we were told are prepared with less filler than in a lot of other local restaurants.
   
They were darn good, too.
   
Key lime pie is made fresh, our waitress, Stephanie, promised us. After sampling it, we believed her. An excellent dessert choice.
   
The atmosphere
If you’re looking for a sports bar, you can’t go wrong. Televisions encircle the wide downstairs eating area and there are plenty of big screens upstairs as well in what is more of a bar area.
   
At some point during our meal, the sounds of karaoke wafted down from above. It wasn’t a distraction, just a subtle reminder that there was activity of the musical kind available for those who can sing … or think they can.
   
The restaurant downstairs is big, so there’s no feeling of being cramped. A downstairs bar is smaller than the one upstairs, but seemed well attended.
   
The Scoreboard is open 24 hours a day.
   
The service
No complaints.
   
Drink orders arrived in timely fashion, as did appetizer and food orders. Stephanie was attentive and nice and helpful in assisting hungry diners in navigating the extensive menu.
   
A final taste
Loosely translated, perhaps, the word smorgasborg means “a lot of stuff.”
   
If by that you mean good food, good drink, good fun and a comfortable family atmosphere, The Scoreboard truly qualifies as a smorgasborg.
