SANTA ROSA BEACH — Open almost a year, JC Seafood House has built a following along 30A who come for the two-for-one early bird specials featuring freshly prepared seafood dishes and more.

The food
JC Seafood House serves a variety of seafood dishes as well as steaks and pasta dishes. The food is prepared by the Pho brothers who have more than 50 years combined experience preparing dishes such as grouper almandine, stuffed shrimp, softshell crab and chicken piccata.

I dined here on a recent Thursday with my mother and aunt. We started with one of the specials for the appetizer, which was fried green tomatoes topped with crab meat and a lemon butter sauce. They also serve similar eggplant and asparagus dishes.

I ordered the crab meat au gratin for my entrée. This came baked in a small casserole dish. It was creamy and topped with plenty of cheese and full of fresh crab meat.

The meal came with a small side salad, bread and butter, potatoes and vegetables. The vegetables were zucchini, squash and onions on the night I went.

My dish was very tasty, but ultimately too rich, which was my own fault. Next time I dine there I would probably choose something lighter, such as the grilled grouper served with shrimp and crab meat and topped with lemon beurre blanc and house sauce.

My mom and aunt each got the shrimp scampi off the early bird menu. If you dine between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m., you can get two meals for $25.98. It’s a pretty good deal for dining on 30A.
