Rolling greens and a tranquil and peaceful setting create the perfect mood for a nice afternoon of golf. One place that fits this description perfectly is Bay Dunes Golf Club.
In this quiet, isolated location, you can truly get lost in the game at Bay Dunes. Established in 1993, the course hosts a variety of tournaments and other events.
“We’re a championship course. Most others in the area are executive,” said Jack Seltzer, general manager and PGA professional.
An executive course is comprised of many par-3s, a small number of par-4s and par-5s, which makes the course much shorter and have a lower par. Therefore a championship course is a much more difficult and a professional course.
Besides being a rare championship course, Bay Dunes also offers a snack bar with a full liquor license, a short range and driving range, top-notch instructors, and a full pro-shop that even allows equipment rentals.
Included in your charge to play is the ability to cruise around the course in a comfortable golf cart, but golf carts are not toys, so drive carefully and don’t try to hit the ball from the cart.
Seltzer, who has been a member of the PGA for 28 years, offers his professional guidance to new comers to the game. There is also an LPGA professional on hand to offer her knowledge as well. The instruction is as in depth as one can get and offers high-tech ways to improve your game.
“We have state-of-the-art equipment,” Seltzer said. “We video tape the practice and then watch it back to review any mistakes. Then we let the person have the tape or DVD so they can watch at home.”
The prices for the instruction are as follows:
- PGA – $65 for 45 minutes
- LPGA – $45 for 45 minutes

Between the beautiful palm trees swaying in the breeze, the emerald green and the peaceful lake, one can truly see what Bay Dunes has to offer the golfer. Natural beauty, a challenging course and an environment that lets the outside world just melt away and allows you to enjoy the here and now. Which is part of the allure of golf and that is what makes Bay Dunes exceptional.
There are two categories of membership available at Bay Dunes, and these are:
- Gold Membership – $125 a year
- Platinum Membership – $2,200 a year.
If you’d rather spend the day out hitting a few you can play an 18-hole game on the weekend for $40 or a weekday game for $30. Seltzer said that morning is the best time to hit the links.
The course is open all year long except on Christmas day.
