SANTA ROSA BEACH — It's a phenomenon like no other. When anyone crosses the line into Walton County and is hit with the salty smell of the ocean something just takes over.
No longer is there a need for the fast-paced way of life. Rather, locals and tourist prepare for a time of relaxation and that starts with transportation. No where else will you find such a leisurely place as the biking community of South Walton.
"It seems like people who come here are in no hurry and we‘ve gotten feedback from people saying, ‘Wow, it seemed like it lasted longer than a week," said 30A Bike Rental owner Josh Foreman. "There's something unique about that."
In surrounding counties, bicyclist are matched with vehicles, golf carts and scooters. But along the Emerald Coast of Walton County there is no match for the biking community.
Foreman‘s shop is one of dozens located along the coast offering anything from a half-day bike rental to week-long rentals. The Seagrove man says the bikes are just step one in becoming a relaxed version of yourself.
Shops sell and rent a variety of bicycles from the wide-tire, wide-handlebar beach bikes, to the road bikes and even trikes. There‘s something for everyone and everyone finds what they're looking for.
"You won‘t find this kind of thing anywhere else," Foreman said. "It harkens back to a time of the good ole days. I think it gives you a small-town feeling that you really can‘t get other places.
"Our area is unique. If you want to come here and take your time its a great place to create memories."
