We have amazing outdoors activities along the Emerald Coast, obviously topped by our sugar white sand beaches and the majestic Gulf of Mexico.
I get it, believe me. If I could make a living off my little Carolina Skiff, I’d be a living version of the “Old Man and the Sea.”
But our piece of paradise is much more than the beaches. Inland, meet the Florida Trail.
After I was able to squeeze out of the office late Sunday morning, I spent five hours on the trail, doing 11.2 miles. It was awesome. I feel great and even in mid-winter this is an amazing section of the trail with the trail head located just outside Crestview.
(Disclaimer I: Last year, I did a 20-mile day when I had more time. I love the woods and getting out on a great hike.)
(Disclaimer II: I almost stretched the hike too far for the time I had, having to two-step it – jog, run – the last hour to make sure I wasn’t in the woods at dark. It wasn’t an issue, but I forgot to put the flashlight in my backpack. Rookie!)
My message is: Get out! Do it!
